Taking a Screenshot with Mac OS X

A screenshot is simply a picture of what you are looking at on your computer screen. Follow the instructions below for creating a screenshot.

1. Open a document or page that you want for your screenshot. (For example, you might have your Internet browser open with the page that shows your scores of an online quiz you just took which your teacher wants to see.)

2. Press and hold these three keys: shift + Command key () + 4. When you let go of those keys, you will see your cursor turn into a "crosshair."

3.
Move the crosshair () to any corner of the picture/document you want to copy. Click and hold your mouse button and move the cursor across the picture until the grey box is surrounding the part of the page you want to copy. You will hear a click like the sound of a camera. Your image will appear on the desktop. Watch the demonstration video below.

4. Look on the desktop to find your screenshot. It should be called "picture 1, picture 2, etc."

Extra tip: If you want to take a picture of your entire screen, hold down shift + Command () + 3. The resulting picture file will appear on your desktop as described above..
